Perceptions of Dress Codes Impact on Academic Performance and Student Behavior EDR610 Course Final Northern Arizona University Flagstaff, Arizona The purpose of this case study is to further understand the relationship between student academic achievement and behavior and school dress codes. This study is being undertaken because the implementation of dress codes and school uniforms has never been more contentious in America today. Some schools see inconsistent results in terms of academic achievement and overall student behavior upon instituting dress codes or school uniforms (Graham, Kahan, 2013; Draa, 2005), while other districts see declines in student success by similar measures (Brunsma, Rockquemore, 1998). School administrators, students, families, and community stakeholders all benefit from a deeper understanding of how dress codes and school uniforms can impact teaching and learning. This case study will contribute to that body of existing knowledge to provide district decision makers with data within specific context(s) that may guide policy and interventions. This study may also provide policy makers with ideas for addressing behavioral problems, campus safety, or alternatives to dress codes or uniforms. Research Questions 1.
